Courtesy of our generous donors and friends at Ronnie Scott’s Charitable Foundation, British jazz great Pete Long got our Young Leaders to put down their music, be a Big Band and try out some improvisation. Shouting out for women in jazz, Pete asked the girls to step up - well done in particular to Habeba, Janaya and Jamela-Renee who rose to the challenge and took their moments in the spotlight. ‘I have learnt to not get stage fright’, said flautist Habeba (In Harmony Liverpool) after her spontaneous duet with Pete on clarinet. Many thanks for taking on the full 60-piece band Pete, and for eliciting responses like these: ‘It was amazing to watch him play and truly inspiring’, Adiya, cellist (The Nucleo Project). Thanks to the fantastic Fatine Boumaaz from Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club for making this special encounter possible.
