In Harmony Newcastle Gateshead is at the centre of a 30-minute film aired by the BBC. ‘The Geordie Symphony School‘, part of the Inside Out series, aired on Friday 27 March at 7:30pm on BBC One, only in the North East and Cumbria region. The film will be available in the rest of Britain on BBC iPlayer until 26 April.
The documentary, narrated by Chris Connel and produced by Andy Smythe, tells ‘the amazing story of how music is transforming children’s lives in one of the north east’s poorest areas.’ It follows the children, teachers and staff of Hawthorn Primary School in their life-changing musical journey. It also includes an appearance by Julian Lloyd Webber, the founder of In Harmony and chairman of Sistema England.
In Harmony Newcastle Gateshead, led by Sage Gateshead, is part of the national In Harmony scheme part-funded by the National Lottery through the Department for Education and Arts Council England.
